The report also claimed that the Italian giants want to secure a loan move for the 23-year-old, with the option to buy at the end of the season. Bakayoko made 43 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea last term.

The arrival of Mateo Kovacic at Stamford Bridge on loan from Real Madrid has further bolstered a midfield unit in west London which has already welcomed Jorginho this summer.

New Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has disappointed former Monaco player Tiemoue Bakayoko by telling him he doesn't feature in his plans for this season.

Bakayoko, however, didn't even make the bench for the Blues' Community Shield defeat to Manchester City last week as Fabregas, Barkley and Jorginho started in midfield.

Discussing the size of his squad recently, Sarri said: "I think the squad is too large, so I think some players have to go on loan".

"I hope to be at the top of the potential of the squad in one or two months, but I don't know".

It remains to be seen how quickly AC Milan will seal the deal. We can not change important players now, so I think it's impossible.

Speaking after the game, he insisted that he is not looking to leave his current club while mentioning Barca's attempts to sign him.
