Redskins RBs post encouraging messages after Derrius Guice suffers season-ending injury

The Washington Redskins running back will miss the entire 2018 season after suffering a torn ACL just minutes into the team's first preseason game against the New England Patriots on Thursday.

Guice left at the end of the first quarter of Washington's preseason opener Thursday night against the Patriots after he was tackled following a 34-yard gain that was negated by a penalty.

Even a standard Brady season should allow him to beat a few of his benchmarks, but taking the whole pot will be tricky. It's not clear whether that previous injury made him more susceptible to the torn ACL, but there were National Football League teams that did extra evaluation on his medical status leading up to the draft because of that knee. We're probably going to see them use a tandem moving forward where one guy handles first downs, shorter second and third downs, and short-yardage/goal-line work, while another back works longer second and third downs and the two-minute drill.

Chris Thompson tweeted that he "had a tough time (trying to) hold back the tears" when he learned about the injury.

But now, Guice will spend the 2018 season rehabbing.

Rob Kelley: "Small thing to a Giant". "At the end of the day, I can't pick who wins and lose the competition; it's up to the coaches and stuff like that".

Washington has a lot of imperfect running backs, and only Guice was a potential three-down player.
