Belgium lie in wait this Saturday in St Petersburg after Croatia inflicted a crushing defeat.

As the final whistle killed off England's hopes of reliving the glory of 1966, it was finally became clear that football was not coming home.

Croatia went ahead in the 1998 semifinal only 26 seconds into the second half when Aljosa Asanovic split the defence with a pass, and Davor Suker scored his fifth goal of the tournament.

Croatia, meanwhile, has played an extra game given the three 30-minute extra times they've participated in.

"The dressing room is a hard place at the moment", Southgate said.

Fear of France hatching a plan to stop Modric: "We are not afraid that they will try to take Modric out of the game because we have other players".

"We have three days to prepare ourselves". There's no question about that. We were there, we were so close to the title, and we just fell short.

"I think [Belgium coach Roberto] Martinez had made a decision to put (Marouane) Fellaini on him so Fellaini was only anxious about Pogba, so of course he had less freedom on the ball, but he knew what to do, he left very little waste".

"But that will be the challenge".

"I don't think realistically we expected to be here. They've shown remarkable character", Southgate said.

"But I can improve and get better and better".

"We are only focused on our game and our performance", he said. And we've proved that is possible.

"Now we have a new benchmark, a new level of expectation".

'Had we conceded for a second time it would have been very hard to come back. He never stops working, tracking and creating. We have no doubts, we play together, that's our strength.

"But I've said all along we're not ideal, we're not the finished article".

"We should be proud and hold our heads up high because we've come a long way from two years ago".

"We are going to play England in the League of Nations (in October) and we don´t have a proper stadium to play that game". But we've won a lot of matches that historically England haven't won. "Even their defenders are outstanding players".

"I have a love of football in my heart". And for me, big occasions, big players, and numerous players they were not there in the big occasion.
