"We're looking forward to putting this soccer city on the world's greatest sporting stage".

The 2026 tournament will be the biggest World Cup ever held - with 48 teams playing 80 matches over 34 days.

The plan is that Canada and Mexico would each host 10 matches, while 60 matches would be played in the United States.

Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Lisa Beare reiterated that point Wednesday, saying the government's concerns "haven't changed".

Nashville was chosen alongside 22 other cities across the three countries to host potential games and training sites for the tournament. The tournament has been jointly hosted only once before, by Japan and Korea in 2002. If it's selected, Kansas City would host quarter-final games and possibly the third-place game. They had done presentations for the five other confederations on Monday. "We are humbled by the trust our colleagues in the FIFA family have put in our bid; strengthened by the unity between our three countries and the CONCACAF region; and excited by the opportunity we have to put football on a new and sustainable path for generations to come". Morocco's bid garnered a score of 2.7, along with a stark warning from the inspection team that "the amount of new infrastructure required for the Morocco 2026 bid to become reality can not be overstated".

Al Jazeera's Gabriel Elizondo, reporting from NY, said: "While the official name of the bid is United 2026, the three potential host nations are right now anything but united".

Some confusion arose on Wednesday when Federation Internationale de Football Association president Gianni Infantino told reporters that it would be up to Concacaf to decide if the US, Canada and Mexico receive auto-bids to the World Cup.

Hard numbers aside, it is a vote with Gibraltar having the same say as China.

The 2026 World Cup has been awarded to Canada, the US and Mexico.

Both bids made their final appeals to UEFA voters in Moscow on Tuesday, with Morocco and United expected to get a vast show of support from their respective confederations.

Two Miami residents - newly-elected U.S. Soccer President Carlos Cordeiro and Donna Shalala, a U.S. Soccer board member - were deeply involved in the bid process.

"The FIFA bid agreement contained clauses that left British Columbians at an unacceptable risk for additional costs", Beare said.

The wounds of 2018 may still sting for the USA, but for today at least, the Yanks, El Tri and The Canucks have won in the biggest way possible. "It's a single-sport event, which is different from Universiade, Commonwealth Games that we've hosted but it's in the mega-event category", he said.
