The Premier League had introduced two new packages of live fixtures that included matches played simultaneously which would particularly appeal to an online streaming group. It will be the first time a full round of Premier League fixtures has been broadcast live in the UK.
In March, Facebook reached a deal to broadcast 25 Major League Baseball games, available on the Facebook Watch channel.
Amazon Prime, which includes free delivery on purchases as well as music and video content, costs 79 pounds ($106) a year in Britain.
The extravagant price of Premier League TV deals have stretched the resources of Sky and BT Sport, so the arrival of a new player in the market could be viewed as a threat to their grip on the most watched league in world football.
"Crucially, Amazon does not need to offer the best matches to boost take-up of Prime but only some matches", they said.
Amazon, which started as an online retailer, has built up an increasingly impressive sports portfolio and broadcasts the US Open tennis, ATP World Tour Tennis events - where they outbid Sky by offering £50 million - and National Football League games.
Amazon has secured exclusive rights to stream matches from the top soccer league in the United Kingdom starting next year, a major boon for the tech giant's growing live sports streaming portfolio.

BT initially said it had paid £90m for its final package, taking their total spend to £975m over three seasons, though that information was later removed from its website.
The amount Amazon paid to secure exclusive Premier League footage has yet to be disclosed. Meanwhile, Sky has signed up four of the seven packages, meaning that the 21st Century Fox-backed broadcaster will show more games than ever before in the three years from 2019.
Now all the revenue from global deals is shared equally among the 20 clubs but the bigger clubs had been pushing for a greater share of the money, arguing they are the main attraction for foreign viewers.
But the format of the Premier League's auction makes it easier for digital media companies to compete.
They will show one full Bank Holiday round of games and one further midweek round on their Prime streaming service.
For customers it means an additional subscription should they want to consume everything.
However, acceptable offers were not made for two of the packages.
