Jared Leto's Joker Is Getting His Own Standalone Movie Too

After starring as the Joker in the 2016 hit Suicide Squad, Jared will reportedly be reprising his role while also serving as executive producer on the project. Warner Bros. already announced that Margot Robbie's version of Harley Quinn would be getting her own movie with a "Birds of Prey" feature, and the next goal was setting up a film for Leto's Joker.

"Plot details are now unknown, but the studio's idea is to expand on the world created by Suicide Squad and tie into future instalments of that property". Both will take place within a Suicide Squad Universe, according to Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and Collider.

It's now unknown when this particular Joker film starring Leto would go into production, as the project has yet to hire a writer to pen the script.

However, the studio emphasized that this did not mean the end for Jared's version as this film will fall under a new banner separate from the current cinematic DC universe.

"Squad" directed by David Ayer, grossed $746 million but was panned by critics in large part because Leto's character was used to hype the film, but his final role was considered by many to be a glorified cameo. Other films on DC's upcoming slate include a Harley Quinn spinoff, Suicide Squad 2, Shazam!, Wonder Woman 2 and Aquaman, which is scheduled for release in November. Also unknown is whether or not that will begin filming before or after the Suicide Squad sequel, which is expected to go into production at some point next year.

Leto and the studio are now looking for a writer for the project, but there's no start date in place. Jared Leto is a played out actor who takes himself far too seriously, who I would be thrilled to not see except on rewatches of My So-Called Life.
