After rampant speculation about Melania Trump's whereabouts following an extended absence, a reporter announced that he spotted her in the White House Wednesday.

Despite news that she is doing well and on the road to recovery, the First Lady has not been seen in public for two weeks.

'Rest assured, I'm here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!

Melania's last public appearance was May 10 when three Americans were released by North Korea.

Despite returning to the White House just a few days following her kidney surgery back on May 14, Melania has remained off the radar.

Maybe Melania Trump has fled to New York City because she's fed up with being first lady - or because another shoe is about to drop with regards to her husband's personal conduct.

However, in the grand scope of Trump's first lady schedule, a 20-day break, while long, isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility. "She's doing great. She's looking at us, right there".

But her five-day hospital stay for what was described as relatively minor surgery did little to stop tongues wagging. While that might be normal for most public figures, as the wife of a president who hates the media but loves attention, her absence is much more noticeable.

Her absence sparked a string of conspiracy theories, including a suggestion that she'd ditched Washington D.C. for NY, according to Politico.

Plus, Trump herself has been active on Twitter - praising the hospital, thanking a Navy SEAL who received the Medal of Honor at the White House, acknowledging the victims of the deadly Santa Fe school shooting, and noting Memorial Day.

However, social media users were not at all convinced and hilarious responses ensued.

Last week, when questioned about his wife's health, Donald Trump told reporters: "She's doing great", and pointed up at her window.

A White House official conceded that the Trump administration is itself to blame for such speculation, saying: 'It's expected that Trump people are hiding something'.
