Star Wars Games You'll Never Get to Play

While coming into the weekend it was known that the Han Solo box office would be lower than expected, the estimates are now stating the movie's weekend performance may not even reach $100 million.

After earning $14.1 million from Thursday night previews, a pre-Memorial Day record, Solo appears to be stalling, and its estimated Friday-Sunday gross of $83.3 million falls considerably short of Rogue One ($155.1 million), let alone The Last Jedi ($220 million) and The Force Awakens ($248 million).

China, on track to overtake the movie ticket sales by 2020, is an important market for Hollywood films, including some franchises like Universal Pictures' "Fast and Furious", which has sometimes generated more revenue in the country than in North America. The film opened ot a paltry $65 million internationally.

Solo reportedly cost upward of $250 million to make, partly because original directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were replaced by Ron Howard, who reshot significant portions of the film.

"Solo" also had stiff competition.

The second weekend for Deadpool 2 will see it drop to #2 with $54.5 million from 4,349 theaters, giving it an 11-day total of $220 million.

Business isn't exactly booming for the galaxy's favorite space smuggler this Memorial Day weekend. Reviews have been mixed to positive, while audiences gave it an A-minus CinemaScore.

It seems that will not be Solo's story.

As it arrived in theaters, Disney might have been wishing it had instead made a Lando Calrissian spinoff with the red-hot Donald Glover, the star of TV's "Atlanta".

It's a lot to ask of Star Wars fans to maintain the same level of excitement across that many Parsecs.

Chinese time swap romance, "How Long" had been the previous weekend's surprise package, when it opened in second place.

Even before this weekend, it was considered a tall order for "Solo" to hit $1 billion worldwide the way the last three "Star Wars" films have done in the holiday season.

One potential issue for the movie was when it was released. "The good news is that the next film isn't until December 2019". We learn that since his encounter with the Jedi on Naboo, Maul survived being cut in half and eventually went on to become the leader of the Crimson Dawn Criminal Syndicate, which is shown in Solo. Its release comes just five months after the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Final domestic figures will be released Tuesday.
