US FIRST Lady Melania Trump is in hospital after undergoing kidney surgery.

Pence commented Monday as he opened a speech in Washington marking 70 years of Israeli independence. "Melania is already on the mend", Pence said.

Mrs. Trump also represented the administration at the April funeral of former first lady Barbara Bush.

HARRIS: Well, we don't know exactly why they did it in the case of the first lady. Grisham declined to provide additional information or answer questions about the procedure, saying that the first lady is entitled to privacy. The statement described the kidney condition as "benign" but provided no further details. Apparently, the surgery was a success and she will be recovering there.

"These are usually benign but if they grow they can cause bleeding around the kidney, they can cause bleeding in the urine, they can cause pain as well", said Brahmbhatt.

The embolization procedure can be done either by a surgeon or in a minimally invasive way by an interventional radiologist, Eneanya said. Mrs. Trump reportedly went to great effort to host the lavish dinner, which featured American cuisine with a French flair.

When the announcement was made that Melania Trump had kidney surgery at Walter Reed medical center, the world was collectively shocked.

Dr. Joseph Bonventre, head of the division of renal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, said it's hard to know from the limited information exactly what Trump's condition and treatment were.

She underwent an embolization procedure, likely to remove a cyst from her kidney.

According to Grisham, Melania trump will remain in the hospital until the end of the week.

The president spoke with Mrs. Trump before the procedure and with her doctor afterward, the first lady's office said.

The Associated Press reported this story.

"The doctors at Walter Reed are expecting a full recovery".

A spokeswoman for the 48-year-old first lady says the procedure was successful and there were no complications.

Melania will spend the rest of the week in hospital.

There's no indication whether Melania's procedure was an emergency or a planned one but she was not spotted publicly on Mother's Day, May 14.
