In a great break from tradition, the update itself should only take 30 minutes according to Microsoft, putting previous marathon operating system installs to shame.

While many things about the bi-annual update are known, last week Microsoft dropped the details about the release date. For the most part, these will make the life of IT admins easier. Windows Update, the Media Creation Tool, and the Update Assistant are now the best options to download, so here's more on how you can leverage these tools. The update will be available for download on 30 April. They would also have to make sure that there is 476.7 MB is available on their computer's hard drive.

Microsoft Edge has also been updated, with the browser receiving a variety of new features, including the ability to mute (or unmute) individual tabs by simply clicking on the tab's audio icon.

The new Timeline feature is essentially a way for people to better locate specific files, photos, or videos on their PCs. Anderson noted that two data points that can be monitored will include the number of devices enabled and the amount of bandwidth saved.

If you downloaded an ISO file for Windows 10, the file is saved locally at the location you selected. There, we saw how it works in providing a literal timeline of all files, documents, and apps that a user interacted with.

"Now, IT can ensure every device is compliant and secure before it is used", Anderson said.

Lenovo and Dell are the first OEMs to support the Windows AutoPilot deployment service on their PCs, while HP, Toshiba, Panasonic and Fujitsu will be doing so as of this fall, Anderson noted.

Nonetheless, one way to force the update to appear on your system is to go to settings.

Timeline is the much awaited top-of-the-line feature in April 2018 Update that allows users to resume their past work and apps on their PC and across different devices. Some of you will get it today, while others will have to wait for a few more days to get it. Windows 10 S mode has arrived, as promised, but Microsoft has mentioned it in the context of kiosks and remote workers rather than the mass mainstream adoption it has forecast.

Like the Do not disturb mode found on most Android smartphones, Focus Assist will basically let you focus on the task that you are working on and will turn off all sorts of notifications, coming from a variety of apps or contacts (both native and third-party). Focus Assist will also let users keep certain people out of this feature. With the latest update, the devices are protected against malware and also aid in performance. It will also allow for printing web pages in a cleaner format with the new clutter-free printing option.
