Mourinho slams United as they hand title to Man City

Jose Mourinho applauded Manchester City's Premier League title success, but lambasted Manchester United after West Bromwich Albion's shock 1-0 win on Sunday.

Manchester United went into the game on the back of an impressive 3-2 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last time out.

The Red Devils used the action as a payback to replicate what the Citizens did to them in the reverse fixture won by Pep Guardiola's side last December.

It's been nearly inevitable for the whole of 2018 but Manchester City have today sealed the Premier League title without even kicking a ball on Sunday afternoon.

"Premier League Champions 17/18", City tweeted soon after the final whistle, when the fifth English top-flight title of its history was assured. It was always a matter of when rather than if City would be champions after they led the way for most of the season. Everything was slow. Everyone was one more touch, one more trick, one more flick, one more turn.

But Jose Mourinho's men failed to make the breakthrough at Old Trafford and paid the price when Jay Rodriguez nodded the Baggies in front. I won too much to just be happy with one big victory and during the week I was trying to fight that because I was feeling and you could see the difference of attitude in some players today compared to other weeks.

This shouldn't shadow what has been a fantastic season for City, with many fantastic wins helping them on their way to the title.

"In my experience you don't win titles with inconsistency, you win titles with quality but you win titles with consistency at every level".

Guardiola and Mourinho have a long rivalry but the United manager said it was not fair to suggest the West Brom loss was the only reason for City's league title.

"If I was them I would be very disappointed if people said they won because West Brom beat Man United".

Only time will tell how good this City team is, and whether they are the best we have ever seen in the Premier League, but one thing that can not be denied is that they are the best we have right now - and by some distance. "The amount of goals, chances and points, to do that in the Premier League, with the contenders we have, is because the players are so good". "One of the things we have to improve is our consistency".
