JB Shuck helps Miami Marlins ends losing streak in franchise debut

The Marlins aren't going to lead the league in many categories this season, but they're already assured of at least one somewhat obscure crown: Most runs scored on a single sac fly.

"It was just a great team win, Dillon [Peters] did a great job of giving us a chance to win and keeping us in the game", Shuck said.

"That was nice, to get a little shot in the arm from J.B. there", Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. He allowed four hits and three walks, striking out two. Pirates starter Jameson Taillon and Miami counterpart Trevor Richards kept the game scoreless into the later innings.

The Miami Marlins started the year at 2-2, but since then, it has all been downhill for them. The Marlins had the bases loaded. After receiving the throw home, Diaz sailed a throw to second into center field with nobody in the vicinity to track down his mistake.

But instead of ending the play and limiting the damage, Pirates catcher Elias Diaz tried to get Miguel Rojas out at second base.

"We're having so much fun as brothers, as a family", said right fielder Gregory Polanco, who hit two homers Thursday. The ball almost rolled to the wall, before being picked up and thrown back to the diamond. That allowed Derek Dietrich to score from second and Rojas followed him all the way around to score from first.

The Marlins added another run on a sacrifice bunt by Chad Walalch in the sixth frame.

Pittsburgh's only runs came off of Diaz's two-run home run in the fifth frame. July 7, 2000, according to MLB.com, when Orlando Cabrera of the Expos drove in three runs with a single fly after a comedy of errors against the Blue Jays. Just when you think you've seen it all, huh?

The Marlins have scored eight runs in their last three games and three or less runs in seven of their last 10 games. "But Ziegler has been around a long time and he can induce a double play better than anybody and I was trying to do something simple and try to win the ball game for us".
