Case Keenum To Sign With Denver Broncos

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported early Tuesday morning that Case Keenum intends to sign with the Denver Broncos once 2018 free agency officially begins on Wednesday.

Keenum was in Houston on Monday night, participating in the First Shot for charity before the Rockets-Spurs game.

Case Keenum contract expected to be short term.

Keenum played for the Rams in St. Louis in 2015, the Rams in Los Angeles in 2016 and the Vikings last season. Keenum guided the Vikings to recent success in the playoffs - an experience Cousins still lacks after six years in the NFL.

The Broncos, who own the fifth pick in next month's National Football League draft, also considered Cousins following a 5-11 season in which Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch all struggled behind a porous offensive line and questionable play-calling before Mike McCoy was replaced by Bill Musgrave as offensive coordinator.

They have not had consecutive losing seasons since 1971 and 1972.

And while the Broncos do need a new quarterback, is Keenum the answer? I'll take that a step further: Since Sammy Watkins and Allen Robinson are both off the board, Elway can also invest in the front five.

The Broncos haven't reached the playoffs in the past two seasons and in Keenum, they get a postseason-tested quarterback.

Arizona is just one game under.500 over the last two years without a reliable starting quarterback. There were some things that we should have done differently that we didn't do. "But I feel like we can get right back in the thick of things pretty quickly".

Quarterback Drew Brees avoided free agency by signing a two-year contract to stay with the New Orleans Saints. Brock Osweiler is a free agent and isn't expected back with the Broncos.

The press in Denver isn't as harsh but doesn't seem to be much more excited, as there are titles like "Denver Broncos: In Free Agent QB Race, Losing May be Winning" and also an article that implies that Keenum is simply a fill-in QB until whomever they end up drafting in April is ready to go.
