Eagles to sign Haloti Ngata to one-year deal

The Eagles' defensive line continues to improve and look more menacing as the team looks to defend their Super Bowl championship. But line depth was huge for the Eagles last season; seven of their defensive linemen played at least 400 snaps, most in the National Football League, per ESPN Stats & Information.

The move will represent the end of Ngata's three-year run with the Detroit Lions-which started when the Baltimore Ravens traded him to the Motor City in advance of the 2015 season.

Ngata will likely take the snaps of free agent Beau Allen backing up star tackles Timmy Jernigan and Fletcher Cox along the interior of the Eagles line.

Nelson spent the previous four seasons with the Denver Broncos. Ngata played 32 games for Detroit, making 53 tackles with six sacks.

Nelson, who turns 26 next month, missed the final 11 games of 2017 with a torn biceps.

The 6-4, 345 pounder is still solid in run defense and before he went down with the injury, Ngata was having one of his best seasons in years.

In January, Ngata told 97.1 FM in Detroit that he wanted to play in 2018.

Needless to say, that production was a far cry from what the Ravens were used to when Ngata racked up five Pro Bowl nods and two All-Pro selections during his nine-season stay in Baltimore. "I want to be able to raise my kids and be able to play with them when they are older and still be able to beat them in wrestling matches and stuff when they are teenagers", Ngata said in 2017. He also has 27 career pass breakups.
