If you've already bought into the Philips Hue ecosystem, these new lights will work with your existing hardware and lights. Once connected to a standard Philips Hue hub, the lights can be controlled through the Hue app or a voice assistant. The Home & Away function within the app can also be used to set the lights to come on a specific time and with Global Positioning System on your smartphone, you can get your outdoor lights to come on automatically when you return home.

Philips' outdoor range of Hue lighting seems to be centered around two lights in particular. "While Philips Hue bulbs and luminaires are available for every area inside your home, we wanted to traverse the threshold and offer connected luminaires designed for outside areas". Both of these lights comprise the Hue white and color ambiance outdoor range, so they'll be able to transition between 16 million different colors to fit a mood or theme.

While the current indoor range can be used outside with weatherproof lanterns, the new outdoor range is dedicated to surviving the elements while adding both ambience and security to your outdoor spaces. This new outdoor range will also support Hue's Home and Away feature, and with location awareness, you can even have them turn on when you arrive home at the end of the day. A few of the outdoor luminaires are ideal for mounting near a front or back door, so your lights can welcome you and your visitors to your home.

All Philips Hue outdoor products are weather resistant, and according to Philips, are easy to install.
