A second ash eruption was also recorded before noon on Sunday.
"The Phivolcs can not say how long the evacuees should stay in the evacuation centers because it might take weeks and it [decision] will always depend on the activity of Mayon Volcano", she added.
The volcano has been displaying abnormal behavior since late a year ago.
The active volcano emitted a plume of ash and steam at 11:43 a.m., which drifted southwest towards the town of Camalig, Mariton Bornas, chief of the Phivolcs volcano monitoring division, told ABS-CBN News.
