He is now still only 26 and Valencia will be a new journey for Francis, but he insists that part of him will always still be with Arsenal and he couldn't leave without sending a heartfelt message to the fans.

Why did you decide to leave Arsenal to join Valencia?

What was said for you to join Arsenal?

He spent loan spells away at Lorient, Freiburg and Charlton before eventually becoming a first-team fixture in the second half of the 2014-15 season. Winning the FA Cup [in 2015] was special. Apart from the Swiss midfielder, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and recently, youth-team product Joe Willock has also started in midfield ahead of Coquelin.

Currently, I can't tell you that much about the game there.

"Coming to Arsenal at such a young age, from a small club, it was a massive step for me". And right away, I felt great here.

"My first year was fantastic, winning the FA Youth Cup in 2009, then coming back from my loan at Charlton I thought I wasn't going to play for Arsenal, but I am happy I had the chance to show what I can do". I owe a lot to Arsenal, it has been nine years of my life and I will never forget it. It is hard to leave.

'Yes, I was playing matches, but not necessarily the most important ones, I still need to grow'. I understand the frustration when the results are not going well.

'We had a very healthy discussion together, ' said the midfielder. "He had an opportunity and I let him go".

"We are open, we are in the market, we are active, but I don't want to give you news I can't confirm after". I really wanted to start something new.

Coquelin comes into a side on top form with Valencia sitting third in the La Liga table, in the Champions League spots, and eight points above champions Real Madrid.

Coquelin made just one start in the Premier League during the current campaign which prompted him to look for a move elsewhere.

Seemingly settling in well on the continent, Coquelin could make his home debut against Alaves in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday evening.

"I trust what he tells me", Coquelin explained while praising Arsenal's injured star Cazorla. After training, the coach told me about his great ambitions: to build a great European team.

"He (Cazorla) told me it's an excellent club which I will not regret joining". I am arriving with no particular status.

'I know Geoffrey Kondogbia and Dani Parejo are two high level players there. It is up to me to get to that level.
