The proposal was made during Tuesday's inter-Korean talks, where North Korea confirmed it would attend the Pyeongchang Olympics following months of tensions over its nuclear weapons programme. At this week's meetings between the two sovereign states, per Reuters, "Seoul proposed inter-Korean military discussions to reduce tensions" and "said it was prepared to lift some sanctions temporarily to facilitate" North Korea's visit to PyeongChang.
The Olympic games are scheduled for February 8 to 25 and the Paralympic games March 9 to 18. U.S. won nine gold medals in the 2014 Olympics and also finished with nine in the 2010 games.
The British team equalled its 1924 record haul of four medals at the 2008 Winter Olympics in Sochi, although that could rise to five because of the Russian doping scandal potentially adding a further bronze medal from the four-man bobsleigh team.
"We know that our goals for any Games are always ambitious", said UK Sport director of performance Chelsea Warr.
