If you stayed up to watch who won the big prize at the Golden Globes Sunday night, you might have done a quick Google search of the victor: "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri".

The film is about a mother who, when the police in her town fail to find a suspect in her daughter's murder, purchases three billboards to call public attention to the unsolved crime.

"Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" confronts the always formidable actor Frances McDormand with this scenario, and as Nat Nichols of The Rose Theatre has pointed out to audiences, it does something unique for films by allowing a woman to give full vent to her cold rage, which McDormand's character carries out every bit as relentlessly as the Furies of Greek mythology.

HBO's lauded series Big Little Lies bagged four awards, winning Best Limited Series, Best Actress of Nicole Kidman, Best Supporting Actor for Alexander Skarsgard, and Best Supporting Actress for Laura Dern. McDormand won Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama, for her role in the film.

The night is held by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), journalists affiliated with publications outside of the United States but who cover the movie and TV industry in Hollywood.
