During the unveiling of the auto, Tomoyama also said, "although it will be some time before you all have the opportunity to get behind the wheel, I hope that the GR Super Sport Concept will give you a taste of what we aim to achieve with our next-generation sports cars".
Presuming the power split between the engine and electric motors is the same as in the racecar, electric motors account for about 493 of those horses, and power is routed through a six-speed sequential gearbox. In terms of design, a race vehicle for the road is sure to raise a few comments, but the GR Super Sport does look ready to stick to the ground like glue given the extreme aerodynamic efficiency. Considering the concept it showed off at CES 2018 earlier this week, you'd be forgiven for being a little confused on that front.More news: Trump threatens to cut United States aid to Palestine

Toyota's performance sub-brand, Gazoo Racing, is a matter of months old. "I hope that the GR Super Sport Concept will give you a taste of what we aim to achieve with our next-generation sports cars". While that's the job of the Toyota Gazoo Racing team and its TS050 Hybrid race cars, the company has always claimed it is using lessons learned in racing to develop better cars - especially performance cars. Its appeal is more personal, like that of a much-loved horse to its owner. Unless you follow Toyota's factory racing efforts in the Japanese Super GT series and, more recently, WRC, Dakar and the World Endurance Championship, odds are the name Gazoo doesn't mean much to you.
Shigeki Tomoyama, president of Toyota Gazoo Racing, said: "Rather than developing production cars into sports cars, we aim to work out how to incorporate the know-how gained from racing and rallying into production cars".
