UEFA Team of the Year revealed

It is the pair's debut appearance in the line-up and they are the first Belgians to be voted into the Team of the Year while De Bruyne is the first City player to have made the XI.

European football's governing body's official website announced the group, assembled in a fantasy Team of the Year, drawing on 8.8 million votes from fans worldwide.

However, the Spurs and England forward was absent from the 2017 Team of the Year, voted for by football fans and tallied by UEFA.

The rest of the team is star-studded as you would expect.

The other three players in the team are: Barcelona's Lionel Messi, Chelsea's Eden Hazard and Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne. Players from the Spanish league dominated the team with five Champions League winning Real Madrid players finding mentions.

Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos was chosen as the second center-back, along with his left-back teammate Marcelo. Sergio Ramos received the most votes with 588,315. With one more appearance, he will be equalling former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas' record of most UEFA team of the year mentions. UEFA.com shortlisted 50 players on the basis of their performances in the calendar year for the selections of the team of the year.
