After over several months in prison, New Orleans rapper Kevin Gates is a free man. Gates was released this morning (Wednesday, Jan 10) from the East Moline Correctional Center.

Hip hop Twitter has been celebrating his release from prison all day.

A year ago he served six months in jail in Florida for an assault charge but upon his release, he was extradited to IL for the pending weapons charge. Although Gates is most known for his mixtapes, he released his debut studio album in January 2016. As written here, Gates already has plans to mentor troubled youth. Under conditions of his release, he will be on mandatory supervision and won't be allowed to possess any firearms.
