The 2004 Olympic lightweight silver medalist's last outing was back in May 2016 when he stepped up to middleweight to face Mexico's star pugilist Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and was knocked out in the sixth round.

The 31-year-old signed a three-fight deal with Hearn's Matchroom with Khan's first fight slated for April 21 at Liverpool's Echo Arena and the opponent set to be announced sometime next week.

Though Spence (22-0, 19 KOs), the IBF welterweight champ, and Thurman (28-0, 22 KOs, 1 NC), the WBA/WBC champ, have attractive alternatives, including a fight against each other, they could make big money for facing Khan, especially in England.

'It reminded me that boxing is what I love and of my passion for becoming a champion again'.

Khan said: "Last year was a bit hard for me but the jungle definitely gave me a place to think about life and where I want to be and I decided boxing is where I belong".

His partnership with Hearn has also fuelled speculation of a bout with Kell Brook, who also has Hearn as a promoter, in the future.

"The plan is to box in April and then again in August or September in preparation for a super fight in Winter 2018", said Hearn. Eddie will probably be my last promoter now'. "I just don't like Eddie Hearn", the recently I'm a Celebrity contestant once said.

And he said his time in the jungle was crucial in allowing him to think about his boxing career.

A fight between the pair has always been touted, however, never came to fruition as the two boxers camps could not agree terms. If he really wanted the fight between me and Kell Brook he should not be speaking to me, he should be speaking to (my adviser) Al Haymon.

Amir Khan's father Shah Khan said that his son was focussed on training and getting ready for the next big fight and had full support of all his family.

Speaking ahead of last year's showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor, Khan said: "The only way I would take that Brook fight is if he left Eddie Hearn".

"I would just love to test myself against him".
