The Focus ST formally introduced Americans to FoMoCo's high performance program and the Fiesta ST built on the popularity of the Focus, offering go-fast-fans two different options when shopping for a small, high performance auto.

Ford is expanding its high-performance ST lineup with the introduction of the 2019 Ford Edge ST.

Coming on the heels of CEO Jim Hackett's takling about making smarter vehicles, the Edge ST will include a variety of smart technology. Like the Sport, the Edge ST will also be standard all-wheel drive, but like the rest of the refreshed lineup the ST will come with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

When Ford said that they were going to offer more ST model, the last model that poeple think they would offer the ST model is the SUV but it looks like that is exactly what Ford wanted to do. The newest member of the ST family features the most powerful V6 engine available in its class, a specially tuned 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost engine with 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. This includes a large central grille opening and unique sculpting through the middle and bottom of the front fascia, introducing the same basic angular design that gives the ST cars their aggressive face.

The Ford Edge ST, meanwhile, has none of that. The Edge ST also has dual-exhaust outlets and available unique 21-inch wheels.

Ford's revamped Edge SUV will be assembled in a plant in southern Ontario, a move a union official said signals jobs will be secure in the region as the automaker invests in new technology. Along with a new sleek grille these features help the Edge look shorter and wider, more like a sports vehicle than a top-heavy SUV, and help give the Edge more modernity by rounding off the, ahem, edges.

"We shredded a lot of race tracks with this vehicle", Jonathan Crocker, the Edge's chief engineer, told reporters ahead of the reveal.

No pricing details are available at this point for the new Ford Performance Edge ST model, but a 2018 Ford Edge Sport retails for roughly $40,000. You also get better brakes.

Naturally plenty of driver-assistance technologies are standard, including forward-collision warning with dynamic brake support, pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, auto high beam, and hill-start assist.

There's a new onboard WiFi system capable of connecting to as many as 10 different wireless devices, even if you're outside the vehicle, say, for a tailgate party.
