Amazon announced Tuesday that it had shipped more than five billion items to users of its Prime service in 2017, as part of a year-in-review for the online retailer. Amazon said the item was the most gifted Amazon Wedding Registry item, the item on the most Wish Lists and it was delivered to more than 27,000 USA zip codes in 2017.

The most-purchased items were all Amazon gear: the Fire TV stick with Alexa voice remote, the Echo Dot, and those generic Amazon power cables you can use for your iPhone on the cheap. "In the USA alone, more than 6,000 trailers and 32 Amazon Air planes were in place to serve Prime members during the year".

That's a massive uptick from the 1 billion items that said it shipped worldwide via Prime during the 2016 holiday season. Another top seller is an item that has lately become synonymous with Amazon Prime: The Instant Pot. To ship all those items and fill all those orders, Amazon upped its global footprint of distribution centers by 30 percent this year.

"Tens of millions of members around the world enjoy the many benefits included with Prime, and in fact, more new paid members joined Prime worldwide this year than any previous year", said Greg Greeley, Vice President, Amazon Prime.

Amazon added that in the USA, the two most popular played songs on Prime Music were "Believer" by Imagine Dragons and "Something Just Like This" by The Chainsmokers & Coldplay.

Amazon rolled out its Prime Video subscription service to most of the world about a year ago.

The Christmas Special is not available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, and it likely will not be added to the streaming service for a long time, if it's added at all.
