A 21-year-old in Pennsylvania recently died from flu complications. "He looked rundown and had a bit of a snotty nose", his mom, Beverly Baughman told WPXI. Kyler Baughman died only a few days after first experiencing symptoms. However, Kyler was coughing worse and running a high fever after Christmas. He started to feel bad enough that he needed to seek medical attention.
He continued running a fever, and went to a Westmoreland County emergency room on December 27, before being flown to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh where he died the next day.
He died less than 24 hours after arriving, on December 28. His body went into septic shock, which can occur when the body is working to fight off an infection such as pneumonia or influenza. She says people who are under the weather should do their part.
H3N2 is known for causing more severe flu symptoms and mutates more quickly than other strains, making it hard to predict and treat.
So far this season, more than 40,000 cases of the flu have been reported.
In some cases, people are misunderstanding the common infection as flu, which is also becoming a reason for death.

As of last week, Flu-related death rates were just under epidemic levels at 6.7 percent of all deaths in the US. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body that protect against flu. The Chesapeake, Virginia pathologist told CBN News people should, "Get to the doctor as early as possible", noting that certain anti-viral medications work best when administered as close to the onset of symptoms as possible.
Baughman was a bodybuilder and had won awards for in competitions over the years.
"He was into physical fitness", Beverly said.

"Try to know your body", he said.
With tears in his eyes and voice cracking, Kyler's father Todd Baughman said he wants to prevent this from happening to anyone else.
