With another big holiday season approaching, so does another Overwatch event. Skins from a year ago will return, as they have in past events, and new items will join them. Events like Winter Wonderland are important to a game like this because they keep players engaged and may convince some players to spend money on microtransactions.
In a new developer update, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan explains all of the skins introduced during last year's event will be returning this year. He added that holiday skins are also on the way for "two of our favorite Junkers" - i.e., Junkrat and Roadhog. Old maps King's Row and Hanamura will receive "seasonal passes", or themed decorations for the holidays. It's a six-player mode with five Meis pinned against a single Winston, who grows stronger the farther across the map he moves.
The most interesting thing about Winter Wonderland 2017, however, it entirely new.More news: WH Pushes Back on 'Ridiculous' Health Questions Following Trump's 'Slurred Speech'

This year, Snowball Offensive will be available on Ecopoint and the new winterised Black Forest arena. That new event is called Mei's Yeti Event, which sounds morbid in theory. When the Yeti is defeated, the group of Meis wins, whereas if a certain number of Meis die, the Winston player wins. But once Winston triggers Primal Rage, the mode flips: It becomes all about the Meis attempting to escape before Winston can kill them.
"I know a lot of you are thinking it sounds kind of ridiculous and kind of silly, and I'm here to tell you it absolutely is", Kaplan said. "But the point of some of these seasonal brawls is just to be fun and light and refreshing for a short period of time". So this is something you can do for now to mix up your Overwatch action - and then you can start counting down the days until the next Winter Wonderland event.
