National Convention: Lawmaker wants PDP to elect credible leadership

Makarfi spoke in Abuja on Tuesday when he received the chairman of the Steering Committee on the Development of Strategic Plan for the National Institute of Legislative Studies, Aminu Shagari, and members on a courtesy visit. It's a good omen to everybody in the PDP.

Mark said that allowing the people's will to prevail will restore the dignity of the party.

A Senior Manager at Top Rank Hotel in Utako told The Guardian that the hotel was fully booked on Monday December 4, 2017 with most of the rooms occupied by politicians.

Adeyeye explained that the party's decision was in line with the party constitution which forbids new entrants into the party from voting at conventions.

He said the party had "credible information" that some "overzealous elements in the government" were planning to "disrupt" the convention.

"We call on President Buhari to investigate and ensure that those who want to disrupt the convention refrain from doing so".

He urged Buhari to go the extra mile to ensure that the PDP convention was successful by providing sufficient security in and around the arena.

In his response, Shagari praised PDP for its contributions to the building of democratic structures in the country.

Dokpesi also said that PDP Governors are performing better than their APC counterparts.

"Everything is set for us to have a successful convention on Saturday", the Governor emphasized.

Adeyeye said Osun State would not participate in the National Convention and that Anambra State was still under consideration, following disagreements in the state.

"I am glad they are working hard and I have seen that they want to make sure that the convention of the PDP is rancor-free, transparent and everybody will be given a level playing ground".

Meanwhile, the PDP in Rivers State, has denied allegations that aspirants are influencing delegates with funds.The party said, it has resolved that only men and women with track records would be elected into executive positions of the party during the national convention this Saturday.

"All you need to do is pick up the constitution of the party and see whether Atiku is qualified to vote or not".
