Since Rian Johnson revealed last month that he had signed on to pen and direct a new "Star Wars" trilogy after "Star Wars: Episode IX" concludes the current trilogy, details about the new trilogy have been scarce. Meanwhile, the short story anthology From a Certain Point of View celebrates the 40th anniversary of the original Episode IV - A New Hope.

"To me", he says, "what's really fun is the notion of what new stuff are we gonna see, what new stories can we tell?" "Yet we can't just revel in that; we have to go elsewhere".

As the newly rebooted Expanded Universe of Star Wars books continues to grow, there have been some truly stellar releases this year. The first of his new trilogy is expected in 2021... And as Kennedy seemed interested, they ended up "giving it a shot". "Episode IX" is still in development and will not hit theaters until 2019, talks about the next films in the "Star Wars" franchise are already swirling around. Being the only film person his friend knew, Solomon went on to call Hamill's agent, explaining that "this lovely boy (who) watched Star Wars everyday wanted to meet NOT Mark Hamill, but the actual CHARACTER that he played". As Johnson was asked about this, he reportedly just answered with a "smirk".

Johnson's "The Last Jedi" picks up the Skywalker story after 2015's blockbuster "The Force Awakens", in which a new generation of characters was introduced with returning favorites Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). "We'll see when we get into the movie a little bit", he said.

Whether or not Lucasfilm plans on exploring more adventures with Luke set during the original trilogy timeline is now unknown, but Alden Ehrenreich is already stepping into Harrison Ford's footsteps as Han Solo while Donald Glover is doing the same for Billy Dee Williams' Lando Calrissian for Solo: A Star Wars Story.
