Stipe Miocic To Defend Heavyweight Strap Against Francis Ngannou At UFC 220

The 31-year-old Ngannou laid waste to perennial heavyweight power player Alistair Overeem at UFC 218 on Dec 2, clobbering "The Demolition Man" with a left uppercut at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Ngnanou is 11-1 in MMA, and 6-0 in the UFC.

The UFC is close to finalizing a heavyweight title fight between Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou for UFC 220 on January 20 in Boston. All three victories have come by way of stoppage - two as knockouts and the Dos Santos win via TKO. Paving the way for a quick turnaround was the latest first-round victory of Ngannou's career, stopping the former title contender just 1:42 into the fight. His coach wants him to fight either Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder next year.

'Everyone was so enthralled about the Conor McGregor-Floyd Mayweather fight.

'That would be a real fight, where an MMA fighter could go in there and upset a current boxing champion'.

If the hulking Ngannou, who only made his UFC debut in December of 2015, hadn't already captured the imagination with five straight finishes, he certainly did so with his sixth - an otherworldly knockout of the aforementioned Overeem on Saturday night. These problems now seem to be in the past though, and Miocic will look to set a new record for UFC heavyweight title defences with a win over Ngannou.

With Miocic Vs Ngannou on-board, UFC 220 is now shaping up nicely with two title fights on-board as a light-heavyweight championship encounter between Daniel Cormier and Volkan Oezdemir also features on the first pay-per-view card of 2018.
